Free deep house sessions in parks, plazas and rooftops across the East Bay. Real music made by real people, a sunset, and a few hundred neighbors who were strangers an hour ago.
Why we exist
What we take in, we eventually give back out.
So let's take in something better.
Every day we absorb the feed, the headlines, the arguments and the bad days. When pressure comes, what we have been carrying has a way of spilling out. A lot of the harm in our neighborhoods starts there, long before anything happens.
Positiva Sessions puts something different in: a bassline, a sunset, a stranger handing you water, a few hundred people moving to the same rhythm. For a couple of hours, age, income, zip code and background stop mattering. There is a beat and the people sharing it.
Underneath everything we picked up from outside, there is a good person in almost every one of us. Yes, even that one guy. We create spaces where it's easy to remember that.
Connection & nonviolence
Free, welcoming gatherings where neighbors meet across the lines that usually keep them apart. We partner with local violence-prevention groups and give them a table at every session.
Authentic sound
Deep house made and played by human beings. No AI-generated tracks, no AI vocals, no formula-built filler. We protect the music that built this culture.
Community-owned
Local DJs and producers come first, volunteers run the floor, and every donation pays for the next session. By the community, for the community.

Streaming platforms are filling up with machine-made tracks built to fill playlists. Deep house came out of basements, record shops and people who meant every note. We play that music, and we make sure the people who made it get credit and get paid.
The Authentic Sound Pledge
Every DJ who plays a Positiva Session signs it.
- Every track I play was made by human artists. No AI-generated music or vocals.
- I mix live. No pre-recorded or auto-mixed sets.
- I share my track IDs so the artists get credit and support.
- I buy music where artists get paid: Bandcamp, label stores, record shops.
- I give stage time to local producers whenever I can.

A session
Two hours, timed to the sun.
Sessions start about 90 minutes before sunset and end shortly after, so everyone is home early. The music starts quiet and builds. No speeches in the middle of the set.
Arrival
Ambient sound and slow percussion. Water is free, the community table is open, kids are welcome.
The groove
The kick comes in, then the bass. Strangers start moving to the same rhythm.
Golden hour
The peak of the set. Thirty seconds of quiet: look around, take care of each other.
Soft landing
The music winds down. We leave the place cleaner than we found it.

For cities, businesses & property managers
You bring the space. We bring the session.
Your most underused asset, a plaza, a courtyard, a rooftop, a lawn, becomes a free community gathering your residents and neighbors will remember. We handle the production and leave it spotless.
What we bring
- Professional DJ programming and sound, with responsible volume limits
- Promotion, signage and photography you're free to use
- Trained volunteers, a safety lead, water and first aid
- Tables for local violence-prevention and community groups
- Full cleanup and a short impact report: attendance, neighborhoods reached, feedback
What a host provides
- A suitable space for 2 to 3 hours around sunset
- Power access where available
- Help with permits or fee waivers where the rules allow
- Restroom access, and a hand sharing the word with your community
